The Guardian has an
interesting podcast on the controversial issue of microfinance. I happen to agree with Cambridge economist Prof. Ha-Joon Chang on this issue and would recommend his paper
"The Microfinance Illusion" for a more detailed discussion of this important topic in development economics.
Interesting that you picked this out as I've just put my name down to listen to HA-JOON CHANG lecture at the Hay-on-Wye festival (which is just down the road from me)http://www.hayfestival.com/p-3468-ha-joon-chang.aspx
ReplyDeleteI'll try and pick out the main points for my blog.
Having skimmed through part of the document I have to agree, microfinance can only do so much in an economy which is being strangled by a neo-liberalist agenda.
Hi Mr. Smith,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment and the link! Prof. Chang is one of my favorite critics of neoliberalism, even if I don't always agree with him. His work is very readable.
